Lavender Fields and Pub lunch - July 2018

On Thursday 19th July, the residents and staff enjoyed a visit to the lavender fields in Sevenoaks Kent. As soon as we opened the mini bus we could smell the lavender and the fields and fields of purple was a beautiful site.

After exploring the lavender fields and picking some of the lavender we ventured back to The Green Man in Longfield where the residents enjoyed a pub lunch and a glass of wine.

A Trip to Herne Bay - May 2018

On a bright and sunny Friday, we travelled to the seaside in our new mini bus.

The residents enjoyed tea and coffee by the sea whilst sitting in the sun and then enjoyed a walk along the front taking in the sea air.

For lunch they enjoyed fish and chips at one of the restaurants, and finished it off with an ice cream whilst sitting on the sea front before travelling back to the chestnuts.

Children spending time with our residents

As a result of the TV program "Old People's Home for 4 year olds" we decided to invite children in, to see them interact and engage with our residents.

Both enjoyed an afternoon of music, games and fun with our entertainer Lhi and the children enjoyed cakes and party rings whilst chatting and playing games with the residents.

It was a great success with lots of the residents talking about the afternoon to relatives and friends for days after the event.

We will be sure to arrange a further afternoon in the future!

Boat Trip on the Kingfisher Boat in Waterbury - August 2017

On Tuesday 8th august 2017, the residents and staff set out on an adventure to Waterbury. The weather was looking unpredictable however that didn't dampen the residents spirit. As we boarded the Kingfisher, the sun came out and we enjoying cruising towards Yalding whilst drinking tea and eating cake!

Both Melva and Leo enjoyed steering the boat and all residents enjoyed feeding the baby swans! Another excellent boat trip enjoyed by all!

Wateringbury Boat Trip

On June 14th, yet another rainy day in June, we dressed up for our boat trip from Wateringbury. Our journey to the boat was dismal with strong winds and rain, however by the time we boarded and were ready to set sail the weather improved and the sun came out. We had a lovely couple of hours travelling along the Medway, enjoying the scenery on the way. We cannot wait to do the trip again next year.

Jack Roots Medal Presentation

On Thursday 17th March 2016 we were very proud to hold a party for Jack Roots to celebrate him being presented with the Legion d'honneur by  the Mayor of Gravesham Cllr Mick Wenban. This medal is Frances highest honour and was awarded to Jack for his part in towing a floating harbour to Normandy's worn torn coast on D-Day. The Legion of Honour medal was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 as Frances highest award. Jack was surrounded by family and friends for what was a very emotional occasion.
